What is Forensic Science and Why Does it Matter?
Forensic science is the application of scientific knowledge and techniques to investigate criminal activities. It can be used to identify, analyze, and interpret evidence found in crime scenes and other locations related to a crime. Forensic science involves the collection and analysis of many different types of physical evidence, including fingerprints, DNA samples, trace material (such as hairs and fibers), chemical residue, gunshot residue, and digital data (from computers, smartphones, or tablets).
Forensic science plays an important role in the criminal justice system. By using scientific methods to analyze evidence, forensic scientists can provide valuable testimonies and insights that can help prosecutors determine guilt or innocence, as well as establish the facts of a case. With the emergence of digital forensics, computer crimes can also be investigated and prosecuted.
